Wildfire Closes Pacific Marine Road – Lizard Lake

Size: 150.0 hectares (estimated)

Status: Active

The size of this fire is very approximate. Heavy smoke is blanketing the area, and the fire is growing in size. There are several spot fires, one being 10 hectares in size. The fire is burning in slash on a steep slope. It is anticipated there will be a larger size once crews are able to establish the boundaries of this fire. The fire is burning in north easterly direction and is not moving towards any structure, home, or community, but is growing into forested land.

Interface: This is not an interface fire.

More Information
The Pacific Marine Road is closed and check points are in place at the junction with the Port Renfrew Road through the fire zone to the junction with the South Main Road. The fire is currently burning on both sides of the Pacific Marine Road, and has the potential of loosening debris which could fall upon the road.

The Lizard Lake recreation site is closed, but the Fairy Lake recreation site remains open. Please go to www.sitesandtrails.ca for recreation site closures.

Highway 14 to Port Renfrew is not affected by this fire. Please go www.drivebc.ca for road closure information.

An area closure has been implemented, and a map can be viewed below. All perimeter roads that are open for public travel are not within the area closure. Roads and areas inside of the perimeter of the restriction are restricted. Please obey this area restriction to protect your life and safety, and the life and safety of the firefighters working on this fire.

Air Tankers dropped retardant on this fire in the afternoon until heavy smoke hampered their work.
