Nanaimo-Info-blog: A ‘Squirrely’ Guest
A ‘Squirrely’ Guest
The other morning while sitting before my keyboard I heard a strange chatter coming from outside my window. At first I thought it perhaps was a young bird calling for it’s parents.
I tried to ignore the chatter but after a few moments curiosity got the best of me and I went outside to investigate. Following the sound I soon spotted a small red squirrel in a cherry tree where his tail was twitching and his chatterer was chattering continually.
The object of his concern was a black and white cat perched atop a fence beside the tree. In the interest of restoring quiet I shooed away the cat which seemed to quiet Mr. Squirrel down so I went back inside.
A moment of two later the chattering started up again, and this time I heard the squirrel landing on the side of my house just outside my window. Going out again, I saw said cat once again, this time on top of my gate where he stopped chasing the squirrel when it flew to the safety of the side of my house.
I chased away the cat this time and over the course of ten minutes or so saw my unusual guest check out the side of my house before stopping for a rest on my deck. He was clearly trying to find a way to make his escape back into the trees while keeping an eye out for Sylvester the cat.
He was finally last seen making good his escape dashing into the black berry bushes beside my driveway. We have lived in this house for 12 years now, and this is the first time I have ever seen a squirrel. I don’t know if the poor little fellow just got lost or??
